Music You Can Touch

Music You Can Touch

Imagine if you could not ever hear music. If you are a music lover like I am, then this would be devastating indeed. Unfortunately there are many people in this world who will never be able to hear music. Music is more than just sound, it is an experience. Music can thrill, teach, entertain and communicate in ways that other media will never be able to do. This amazing concept was designed by Jackson McConnell. What it provides is Music You Can Touch. It is especially great for the hearing impaired. Also a fantastic idea for anyone who would like to experience music in a different way.

The speaker is called Ripple. The fluctuating needles emit vibrations as sound waves that can be touched.

"If confronted with speaker vibrations and oscilloscopes showing sound wave patterns, it is possible for those with little to no hearing understand and enjoy music. The concept is an attempt at making music "readable" through a small object." ~ Jackson McConnell

Jackson is an industrial design student at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. This is an amazing concept that would change lives.

Unfortunately the Ripple speaker is a concept only and is not available for purchase. It was designed in 2010. There are some speakers available that are based on similar concepts.
